Surat: In a peculiar theft incident in the upscale Althan area, three thieves made off not only with cash and a mobile phone but also grabbed six chocobar ice creams and a packet of condoms before fleeing, police said.The Althan police have booked three suspects based on CCTV footage and launched a probe into the break-in.According to the shop owner, the incident occurred around 4am on Saturday at Hariom Medical Care in the Mahavir Heights building. The accused allegedly broke the locks on the shutter and the glass door to gain entry. They stayed inside for about half an hour, stealing Rs 48,000 in cash and a mobile phone valued at Rs 7,700. In an unusual twist, the thieves also took a luxury condom packet worth Rs 295 and six chocobars worth Rs180 before escaping.The incident came to light when a pharmacist working there reached the shop around 9am on Saturday. She called her the shop owner who later filed the complaint. Sources said the shop had opened on Nov 24.Police noted that the gang’s careful method of operation suggested that they were habitual thieves.The Althan police have started an investigation to trace the culprits.
