Surat: A 22-year-old woman and her three-year-old child died after jumping from a 14-storey residential building in Bhatar on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at the SMC Suman Avas scheme around 10.30am.The woman has been identified as Zaheeda Irfan Alam and the child as Afan, residents of Azadnagar. Zaheeda’s husband works as a lab technician at a hospital in Vesu. The child died on the spot, while Zaheeda succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Civil Hospital in the evening.Preliminary findings suggest that Zaheeda was undergoing treatment for migraine, which is suspected to be a possible factor behind the incident, though police said the exact reason is still under investigation.Police said Zaheeda and her child, who were not residents of the building, went to the top floor and jumped from the gallery. The woman fell on a car parked inside the society, sustaining critical injuries.Khatodara police inspector Bhavesh Rabari said, “Doctors tried to save the woman, but she died during treatment around 6.30 pm. No suicide note or mobile phone has been recovered.” Khatodara police have registered an accidental death case.
