Surat: Fed up with his years of mental and physical torture, a 35-year-old woman allegedly killed her husband by repeatedly striking him with a big stone and bat in the Amroli area in the early hours of Sunday.Police have arrested the woman, Ankita Chudasama, for the murder of her husband, 48-year-old Kanu Chudasama, who later died from severe head and abdominal injuries at a private hospital. The couple lived in Om Shanti Nagar Society.Investigators said the couple’s relationship began nearly 15 years ago in Rajkot, where they fell in love before marrying and relocating to Surat. They have two children — an 11-year-old son and a nine-year-old daughter — both of whom were at home when the argument escalated into violence. Police learnt that he tortured the children also. “Preliminary investigation suggests the husband had been physically and mentally harassing Ankita for a long time, leading to frequent quarrels,” said an officer from Amroli police station. “On Saturday afternoon, another fight flared up over household chores and continued late into the night. Ankita flew into rage, went downstairs and picked up the big stone. She then repeatedly struck him on the head and stomach till he fainted. She then rained blows with a cricket bat and even stabbed him with a kitchen knife,” the officer added.The children woke up hearing the commotion and Kanu was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance with the help of neighbours and owner of house in which they lived on rent.Ankita stayed put in the house after the incident and did not attempt to flee. Kanu used to drive the private bus from Surat to Maharashtra and often came home even drunk, sources said.Police added that Ankita is Kanu’s second wife. His 17-year-old daughter from his previous marriage also lived with the family. The family had recently returned to Surat from their hometown Rajkot on Dec 4.The complaint was lodged by the 74-yer-old house owner.
