Surat: A 75-year-old retired woman lawyer from Mumbai filed a complaint against railway officials working at Valsad railway station 24 days after facing the rude behaviour. Jyotsna Damaniya submitted a written complaint in the Valsad railway station complaint book on Wednesday, alleging rude behaviour by the officials towards a senior citizen on Nov 23, and demanding action.Damaniya, who moved to Valsad recently, went to the station on Nov 23 to buy a ticket for the next day’s train. She was rudely refused the ticket by staff at the window. She then approached senior officials to complain. One official suggested she make a written complaint in the complaint book. When she went to submit her grievance in the complaint book, she was again treated rudely by officials.“It was my first time alone at Valsad railway station to buy a ticket. To avoid the tension of buying a ticket at the last moment with luggage, I wanted to buy one a day in advance. The staff refused and behaved rudely when I asked them to find a way out for a senior citizen,” Damania told TOI.“I then met a senior official who suggested I submit my grievance in writing in the complaint book. I went to the office concerned where I faced rude behaviour again,” Damania said.Officials first refused to give her the complaint book. “When I insisted, one officer started shouting at me. He came close and threatened me saying he would call the police as I was not a bona fide passenger as I was not carrying a ticket while inside the railway station,” she added.Damania then left without registering a complaint. On returning to Valsad, she registered her grievance in the complaint book on Wednesday.
