34 FIRs filed in Surat as ‘Operation Mule Hunt’ widens

Surat: Surat cybercrime police and various police stations have registered 34 additional FIRs under ‘Operation Mule Hunt’, exposing cyber frauds amounting to Rs 1.73 crore.Of the 34 FIRs, 28 were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act for cyber fraud cases, while in the remaining six cases, accused persons were booked for allowing their bank accounts to be used to park fraud proceeds, police said.Investigations revealed that the complaints included two cases of visa fraud, in which victims were lured with promises of visas to Russia and were issued fake air tickets and forged visa documents. Other cases involved work-from-home scams, investment frauds, task-based scams, APK frauds, loan frauds, and OTP-related cheating, among others.The FIRs were registered at Utran, Dindoli, Bhestan and Sachin GIDC police stations, while four complaints were filed directly with the Surat cybercrime police station.
