Surat: Kosambaa police have registered an FIR against two men after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed in the neck during an attempted robbery in the Pipodara industrial area of Surat district on Wednesday.The victim, Vanita Sharma (19), was on her way to work when the accused, identified as Mangal Pal and Ballu Naik, allegedly intercepted her on the Halpati Faliya–Radhe Silver GIDC road and demanded her iPhone, valued at Rs 85,000. When she resisted their attempt to snatch the phone, one of the accused allegedly stabbed her in the neck. The other allegedly tried to remove her gold nose pin but failed, police said.Local residents caught Pal while he was attempting to flee and allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to police. He has been admitted to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the thrashing and will be formally arrested once his condition stabilises, police said. Naik managed to escape, and a search has been launched to trace him.Sharma was rushed to a hospital, where she underwent surgery. Doctors declared her condition stable.A case has been registered under Sections 109(1), 115(2), 118(2), 126(1), 311 and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
