Reading the PALM
| It is to se marvelled at the secrets to be revealed in
that most familiar object, the PALM of one's Hianu. The course of one's
entire life may he found in the Iines written therein: one's vocation
and success, intellectual and artistic PROPENSITIES, romantic
inclinations and family life, even one's childhood ailments and future
health, are all here for the initiated to see'.
Although the lamps may be dimmed in the remainder of the Drawing Room, it is of the highest importance that there be a good light for the Reader to see the Yalm of her "Client's" Hand clearly. We say "her", for the practice of Chiromancy or Chirognomy is by custom performed by the fairer sex, who are more attuned, perhaps by the intuition often ascribed to them, to the revelation of the secrets of the HAND. 'The Reader (especially if she be the cook who, if she had a country upbringing, may already be well-skilled in PALM Reading ) should be warned previously not to reveal anything of Dark Import, such as would spoil the enjoyment of the evening. For a full Reading, both Hands should be examined, for the Left Hand is said to hold the most inner secrets of the self, while the Right reveals how its owner fares in the world. (If the Client be sinistral, or "left-handed", he should tell the Reader, as the meanings of the two Hands are then reversed.) |
