HOROSCOPE ( Reading the CARDS )

Reading the CARDS

If there be a local Gypsy-woman perhaps known to your servants, it might provide a pleasurable diversion for your guests if she Read the Cards after a dinner party. Although our more Liberal clergy, who work so devotedly (and with so little reward or thanks) amongst the poor, tell us that the Gypsy-folk (or as they prefer, the Romanies) are not the 'Thieves and Rogues we have been led to believe, nevertheless the servants should be warned to watch her at all times, if she eat with them before being brought upstairs.

You should agree beforehand whether she be paid all at` once (in which case a shilling will be sufficient payment for an hour or two's entertainment), or whether each "Client" should "cross her palm with silver" separately and individually. Your dinner-guests must also be told which arrangement has been agreed, to avoid embarrassment.

However, the skill of  READING THE CARDS is not a difficult one for the hostess herself to master, though at first sight there seem a lot to learn.

There are at least as many ways of READING THE CARDS as there are Cards in the Pack. Some are very complicated and take a long time to perform, both in their layout and in their interpretation. As we imagine that you would wish to have some several Readings during the course of the evening (though all authorities agree that you should never perform a Reading for the same person more than once in twenty-four hours), we will only give two of the simplest methods here.

The Meanings  of The Cards
