RAJUCHACHA

Starring: Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Rishi Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt
Director: Anil Devgan
Music: Jatin Lalit

Ajay Devgan and Kajol strike back with their latest family entertainer 'Raju Chacha'. We don't have to look too far back to remember that the last time this husband and wife duo teamed up, they starred in the box office dud 'Dil Kya Kare'. However, this film is more important to them as it is a home production and the lovebirds have given it 100%! Now lets see whether all that hard work has paid off…

The film's setting is in a beautiful, huge mansion….owned by a hugely talented and successful Architect (Rishi Kapoor, who has finally got around to playing his age, and thank god for that!). Rishi lives at the home with his children and various other family members. His wife died a while ago and he has raised his children without her, although they are very spoilt in every possible way.

Rishi is a busy man, and hires various nannies to look after the kids while he is away on business. However the kids hate all the nannies, and instantly make their lives hell. Although some of the nannies are confident that they can calm the kids, none are successful and they all leave the job one by one. Can anyone actually handle these naughty brats?

Enter Kajol, who has to try and make friends with the kiddies. Of course they do their usual naughty routines, but Kajol tries her best to match their wits. One day the kids take things too far, and just like the other nannies, Kajol ups and leaves. Luckily, the kids realise their mistake and beg for forgiveness. Hurray, they all love each other!

Ajay Devgan is a thief in the film, who has a 'love at first sight' experience with Kajol. After a little while, she decides that she feels the same way and they plan to get married. Unfortunately Ajay gets arrested on the day of the wedding for petty crime, and Kajol thinks she has been dumped and leaves with a broken heart.

Meanwhile, tragedy strikes when Rishi is killed and his evil relatives try and lay claim to his vast fortune. Now that they don't have a father either, the kids are ignored and treated really badly! Will Ajay and Kajol get their act together in time to save the day? And where does Sanjay Dutt, who is making a special appearance, fit into the picture?

'Raju Chacha' is a nice release for the Xmas / Eid period. It's the time of film that the whole family can watch, and although it won't be remembered as an all-time great, it is enjoyable. The first half drags on slightly, but if you stick with it, then the action packed second half will keep you entertained.

The performances of the lead pair are good, but what did you expect? Ajay Devgan and Kajol share good chemistry, and make a good on screen pair. Rishi Kapoor does a decent job, although he could have done better. Sanjay Dutt does alright in his brief appearance, although the character doesn't make much of an impression.

Although it has a fair share of bad points, Raj Chacha is above average.
