Director: Khalid Mohamed Music: Anu Malik lyrics: Gulzar Starring : Hrithik Roshan, Karisma Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan PICTURES How many people can boast about becoming a superstar after only one film? Not a lot, unless your name is Hrithik Roshan. However the time has come for his fans to discover whether he can work his magic once again in his second release, 'Fiza'. Of course, with co-stars including Karisma Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan, Manoj Bajpai and Neha - Bollywood's latest heartthrob has ample support. Now, what is the film about? A mother (Jaya Bachchan) lives in Mumbai with her son and daughter (Hrithik and Karisma). They live a simple family lifestyle, until the communal riots of 1992-3 creates havoc in their lives. The most affected by the riots is Hrithik, who gets involved with the violence and then disappears. His family live in hope that he will return one day, but after six years of hope, Karisma decides it is time to get more active and goes out to find him - not knowing whether he is dead or alive. Luckily, he is still alive and lives in Rajasthan, although he has become a terrorist. This doesn't stop Karisma in bringing him back home and trying to change his life for the better. It's a nice thought, but not as easy as it sounds. Hrithik soon goes back to his old life and gets into more trouble than he ever imagined. The terrorist group that he is working for plan to kill him after he completes the latest mission - meaning that poor old Hrithik is trying to save himself from both the evil side and the good side (i.e. the police). First things first, not matter how good or bad the film is, it will still take a great initial. Thanks to the Hrithik factor, along with the huge hype it has generated. Not a bad start really. The film has given Karisma Kapoor lots of space to show her talent. She is, after all, a good actress and this is something she shows with 'Fiza'. It's actually a great role for her and she was lucky to bag it. Hrithik Roshan also performs very well. Considering this is only his second film, it is obvious that he is a natural actor. The role is not the typical commercial kind, so don't expect Kaho Na Pyar Hai. Hrithik does get a couple of opportunities to show his dancing abilities, but this is more about the acting, in which he is equally talented. This should keep his huge fan base happy! Jaya Bachchan is great - but then, we didn't expect otherwise. Manoj Bajpai, in his cameo role, also managed to make an impression. The performances in Fiza are definitely one of the movie's strong points. Oh, and lets not forget Sushmita Sen's sexy little number. It may only be one song, but she does a sizzling job! What about the script? Well, it is one of Fiza's weak points. The storyline may be different from all the over films being release every week, but it is not written very well. You just feel that with a better, tighter script, the film would make the impact that was obviously aimed for. Fiza is a complicated story, and more thought into the script would have benefited the final outcome. But even with patches in the script, there is probably enough to see this at least recover costs at the box office. Hrithik fans will be marching to the cinemas, together with fans of women orientated movies - so, as we said early, the film will be houseful for a while. Just goes to proves, an average film with good stars and publicity can still do well! |
