Beti No.1

Govinda fanatics have been eagerly awaiting this movie for ages. It was actually supposed to hit the big screen quite a while back, but was constantly delayed. The good news is that Beti No.1 has finally seen the light of day…the question is, has it been worth the wait?

Aroona Irani plays the super rich mother of three sons - and completely rules the roost when it comes to any family matters. Nobody dares to challenge her authority.

The family is now expanding. Aroona's son number one (excuse the pun!) is a father to a girl. It's the same case with the second son. However, Aroona does not care much for granddaughters, and desperately wants a grandson.

There is now pressure on son number three - Govinda - to give his mother what she really, really wants. He falls in love with Rambha and they get married. The next step is to think about starting a family, which means baby time!

Govinda's best friend (Johnny Lever) and his wife are going through the motions too. Funnily enough, both wives end up pregnant at the same time. What a coincidence! In the hospital they both give birth, Govinda becomes papa to a girl, Johnny father to a boy.

Oh no! This is not what Aroona wanted, but she doesn't actually find out! Govinda's brother sees Johnny's son and immediately assumes it belongs to Govinda! Thrilled that his mother now has a grandson, he rushes the baby to her.

This is where things get a little stupid. The two best buddies keep swapping their babies back and fro…will the family ever find out the truth about whose baby is whose?

The film is way too stale to work at the box office. Govinda gives a decent performance and goes quite well with Rambha, even though her role is minimal. Although Govinda manages to compliment the actress, they will need a better movie to really capitalize on their pairing. This movie is definitely not strong enough for us to decide whether they are hot together…then again, it is unlikely Rambha will ever be hot with any star, even if she is considered lucky by some.

Once again, Govinda and Johnny have given their joint comedy routine…which is definitely a highlight of the movie. The two have great timing, and some of their dumb expressions are just priceless. They definitely provide some giggles from the audience.

The music is just about okay. It has not exactly set the charts alight yet, but it has some listenable songs that give Govinda opportunity to get jiggy! Well, that is one his strong points, no?
Apart from this, the film is below average. I mean, who actually goes around swapping their babies to keep the grandmother happy? Although some Govinda fanatics may enjoy the comedy, other people should definitely
