c. Developing
This part of preparing the presentation
deals with the actual physical process of writing a presentation. Just
KISS and KILL to get this step right !
KISS : Keep It Short and Simple is the way the contents of the
presentation
should be.
KILL : Keep It Large and Legible is the rule for good slides.
The presentation slides should be readable by the audience even in
the last row.
The 6 x 4 rule :
O
Never write more than 4 words per line.
0
Never write more than 6 lines per slide.
Divide and Conquer :
Divide your data and conquer your audience. When a lot of data needs to
be
shown, make use of tabular columns. This makes the appearance neat
and
tidy and readable.
Visualise :
Where ever possible convert all numeric data into pictorial forms such
as
graphs and
diagrams.
Unfold :
Here you make one point at a time so that you focus instead of
creating
attention dividers.
People speak at 60 words per minute (wpm), read at 100 wpm
and think at 500
wpm. This is why you need to put only one point on a slide.
Having more than
this would take your joy away in `unfolding' an idea, thereby
lessening the
impact of the presentation.
Plan colour :
Colour helps you to
emphasise a point
distinguish a point or a subject
surprise the audience
Demonstrate :
If a picture speaks a thousand words, a demonstration is like a
thousand
pictures.
