COMMUNICATION SKILL

  THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS

The communication process has 5 stages :

Sourcing     : The stage identifies where the message to be communicated initiates.

Creating      : This is the stage where the actual message is created or written.

Channeling : This stage involves selecting the media through which the message will be transmitted.

Receiving    : In this stage the receiver confirms whether the message has been received.

Feedback    : The most important stage. This will determine whether the receiver of the message has understood the message. This is the entire purpose of sending the message in the first place is it not?

  EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

Effective communication is the sum result of

  Correct and explanatory language
  Eye contact
  Body language
  Tone
  Facial Expression

Another important aspect of effective communication is listening. When you listen to what someone is saying to you, you have performed an important role in effective communication. Like when you are talking, you see use facial expression, body language and hand gestures, even when you listen you take note of all these factors.

  TYPES OF COMMUNICATIONS

Communication can be verbal or non-verbal. Verbal communication comprises of :

  Speech
  Text

Whereas non-verbal communication consists of tone and body language which is made up of

  Facial expressions
  Gestures
  Eye contact

Another the finer aspect of communication, that gets introduced, is that of personality. This is the facet that truly adds luster to the speaker's capability.

  PERSONALITY

The Oxford Dictionary defines 'Personality' as the "the distinctive character or qualities of a person, often as distinctive from others" or "a person who stands out amongst others by virtue of his or her character". The real defination however is difficult to write about in a line or two. The personality of an individual is not about how the fave looks, or how tall the person is or how beautiful a person is . It encompasses the entire PERSON including the intelligence of an individual. It is the coming together of all the aspects of an individuals characteristics.

To get this point across, I'd like to quote the examples of some of the great personalities from our history pages that have inspired and continue inspiring our lives.

The frail and diminutive frame of Gandhiji, says more about a personality than any number of books available on this topic. His real strength lay in his beliefs, his convictions and his faith in God.
