    Accommodation
All the important cities and many of the hill and other tourist resorts in India have hotel accommodation.

While seven of the major hotels are fully air conditioned, the others have a total of 1000 air conditioned rooms. Most hotels of India offer only American plan or 'bed and full board'. The majority of hotel rooms have attached bathrooms, mostly with long baths.

Restaurants, many offering excellent Western and Indian cuisine, are to be found in most major cities. It usually costs one to two dollars for a three-course meal in a good restaurant.

In addition to the hotels, which are mostly conceritrated in cities, accommodation is available in most of the tourist resorts which are situated in out-of-way places. Known as 'dak' bungalows, travelers bungalows, forest lodges, inspection bungalows, rest houses , railway retiring rooms, etc., these may consist of anything like 4 to 12 rooms each. In point of furnishing, availability of food in Western style and other amenities, they are not all uniform. In most of these places, however, catering is done in Western style, but prior intimation is necessary for this as well as for reservation. The rent is moderate and ranges between 50 cents (U.S.) and a dollar a day. Of late, the Government has put up tourist bungalows in places of major tourist interest and the price, inclusive of catering, is less than $ 4 a day. In point' of comfort, they are comparable to second class hotels in the country. (For more information on hotels in India, please see 'Hotel Guide')
